Uchenna Bacchus is a 19-year old, 2nd year Mechanical Engineering student at the University
of the West Indies (UWI), Trinidad and Tobago.
From childhood, Uchenna wanted to become a pilot as he had developed a keen interest in
aerplanes. At 11, he attended a STEM programme offered by the Civil Aviation Authority of
Trinidad and Tobago, where he was awarded the "Wright Stuff" award for outstanding
performance and won a flight in a Cessna aircraft. He gained a strong Mathematical and
Scientific background throughout his educacational journey.
About a year ago, Uchenna didn't know that he would be pursuing Mechanical Engineering, and
originally recieved an offer for an Optometry degree programme within the Medical Sciences
faculty, however at the las moment he decided to apply for Mechanical Engineering and
was accepted. He now hopes to use the knowledge and skills gained from his programme to
enter the field of Aerospace Engineering.
